“The Square Root of Possible” #justbelieve #JingleJangle

Journey, Jeronicus, and Buddy 3000.

Let me preface this by saying I genuinely enjoy watching movies.

I try to be a regular person, get into the storylines, and just enjoy them for what they are…

but every now and then the Holy Spirit is like,”Oooh, watch this! Watch this!” My biblical lens gets laser focused. I get excited and become inspired. This time I was watching “Jingle Jangle.

SN: Please consider this post a blatant spoiler. If you have not seen this movie, no worries, but I need you to watch ASAP! It is AWESOME SAUCE! Keep reading, then watch.

I’m referring to the scene where Journey and Edison were trying to fix Buddy 3000? Journey’s sheer belief that Buddy 3000 could work made him work! We won’t fault Edison for his initial doubt. Fear tried to overtake his belief. Together they cracked the code for the “Square Root of Possible.”
*Jeronicus re-enters the room.*

For some reason, Buddy 3000 stopped working.

When Jeronicus left, Buddy 3000 started working again.

My churchy side started going in.

The scene reminded me of so many things that occurred during Jesus’ ministry.
Let’s take Matthew 9:18-26.

Leader of the synagogue comes to Jesus to bring his daughter back to life.

Jesus didn’t hesitate to help. Jesus took his disciples with him.

On the way a woman with incredible (and extremely bold) faith touches the hem of Jesus’ robe. Jesus stops to engage. Who knows how long this conversation lasted. The Bible doesn’t say. Regardless, her faith that just a touch of his robe was enough led to her instant healing.

Back to Jesus’ journey to the little girl.

They finally arrive and Jesus hears funeral music.

To be a fly on the wall and see Jesus’ face in that moment!

Jesus commands them to stop playing funeral songs for a child who is only asleep.

They laugh.

Jesus kicks them out.

Mark’s account says Peter, James, and John stayed in. Mark also says her mother and father were in the room too.

Jesus takes the girl by the hand and told her to get up.

She gets up.

She starts walking around like nothing happened.

Jesus told them to feed her and keep it a secret.

What can we learn from this? I see at least three questions we should ask ourselves when the possible no longer seems possible:
Who do you believe?

The leader of the synagogue believed his daughter was dead…but he also believed Jesus could raise her.

Seem double minded?

It’s not.

Life often brings situations that shake our belief. Things that shake our faith. We’ve been in it so long we just don’t know if things will get better.

We’ve tried so hard for so long, we think it’s time to give up and call TOD. However, the little mustard seed of faith we have left tells us call on Jesus too.

Take Jeronicus. A genius inventor, once full of expectation and wonder. Anything was possible. His inventions were stolen and he called TOD on his gifts, and assigned himself a whole new purpose. Instead of inventing, he turned “Jangles and Things” into a pawn shop. Choosing to work in the dark, people brought other people’s inventions to him to be fixed. People tried to speak life over his situation, but he only saw the death of what used to be.

Who do you believe?

Who’s in the room?

Matthew 9 shows the importance of establishing who needs to leave and who can stay.

Anyone playing funeral music and laughing at possibility of Jesus working a miracle? By all means, show them the door.

Remember when Jesus was rejected at Nazareth? He could do “Only so much because of their lack of belief.”

Jesus only let certain people into the room. Jesus let in the people who believed he had all power. Jesus let in the people who had vested interest in well being of the child.

Who’s playing funeral music in your room?

Who laughing at the possibility of Jesus turning things around-even when the situation looks dead to you, too?

Who has a vested interest and genuine concern for your well being?

Make sure you have some “Journey’s” in your room. People who can believe and see possibility when you can’t.

Who needs to know?

No one.

Why?

Because Jesus said hush.

No social media posts. No hashtags. No calls. No texts. No pics.

Could you do it?

Some people won’t be able to handle your miracle. Jeronicus tried to project his issues onto Journey’s belief because of his own past experiences.

It may not have happened for them but God chose to do it for you.

File the experience away in your heart and mind for the next time life throws something your way.

For the next time God throws a test your way.

Jesus said hush, so hush!
Jeronicus eventually came around. His belief was eventually restored and Buddy 3000 worked for him, too.

The “Square Root of Possible” again became his reality.

If you believe, the square root of possible can become a reality in your life too.
