I’m an early bird. There is nothing like waking up, praying, grabbing an iced coffee and getting stuff done.
Waking up at 4:05 AM? Piece of cake. I did it consistently for several years. Lately, my 4:05 AM has turned into me not hearing my alarm and waking up two to three hours later than I planned.
I found myself feeling guilty for sleeping later. I found myself feeling guilty for not exerting the same hustle energy to get things done as when I worked a 9-5. Just one month into leaving my job to become this purpose driven, “mover and shaker,” I already
felt like a complete failure due to my seeming lack of moving and shaking.
One morning, as I sat on the edge of my bed (on the verge of tears, I might add), the Holy Spirit reminded me of a sermon I listened to last year. I was also reminded of a podcast I listened to a few weeks ago. I realized that God wanted me to embrace his pace.
His grace over grind perspective.
What does that mean?
Well, it doesn’t mean that I do nothing. That I just pray and sit idly while expecting God to do all the work for me. The Bible definitely states that faith without works is dead. It also states that if a person does not work they do not eat!
It also doesn’t mean that I embrace the world’s approach of, “No Days Off!” either. That I become one of those whip cracking, “hustle nazis,” who judge and make people feel guilty for taking a nap, taking a break from constant social media engagement, taking a vacation, or for spending time with friends and family.
God means for me to embrace his approach to work:
Working six days. Resting one.
Retreating to spend time with the Father when the demands of entrepreneurship seem overwhelming.
Stoping to cultivate the life giving relationships in your life.
Remaining focused on the bigger picture of your business’ mission and vision. This prevents you from accepting or chasing after things that may distract from His ultimate purpose for your endeavors.
Staying connected to the Vine, seeking His divine direction and strategy and recognizing Him as the CEO of the business, while embracing my position as the COO.
Are you a business owner? Thinking of starting a business? Embrace God’s pace.

“You may say in your heart, “The power and the strength of my hand has made this wealth for me.” But remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you the power to gain wealth, in order to confirm His covenant that He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” -Deuteronomy 8:17-18
